liking incest and proship is not a healthy coping mechanism. though fiction is not “real life”, it is a result of reality. this is because fiction usually mirrors real world problems and situations. we cannot make or imagine fictional things without taking things from the real world.
according to george herbert mead’s symbolic interactionism theory in 1860’s something. symbolic Interactionism is a theory that explains how people learn the meaning of things by talking, interacting, and observing others and so much more. sooooooo people give meaning to situations based on their experiences. the theory also says that people act based on what things mean to them. what someone believes or understands will affect how they react. though yes, this theory is old this is still relevant now because researches still use this theory.
anyways.
you say “if someone can’t separate fiction and reality, they shouldn’t be online” and while this does sound logical, this doesn’t speak for all because most people can tell fiction from reality but that doesn’t mean it has zero influence. minors, though some do have the intelligence to know what is right or wrong- they are still developing their own thoughts and beliefs.
you also said: “no one is harmed because it’s fictional.” yes this technically true, i agree that there is a lot of media that explores dark topics.. the thing is that if you keep exposing these topics out in public it can normalize these topics and that wouldn’t be so good. you are in the safe server, you shouldn’t be showing others you do proship in a public space where minors are.
coping is valid, however. i get using fiction to cope, but coping mechanisms can still affect other people. that’s why some things are better kept in private or clearly separated spaces... thereis a difference between having something in a private party vs putting it in usernames or general tags where anyone can come across it.
im not saying you shouldn’t cope or that fiction can’t be a tool…. a lot of people do rhat!!! but there’s still a difference between handling that privately vs putting it in open spaces where people didn’t choose to see it. mixrd spaces have younger or more impressionable people, and they’re still forming their understanding of boundaries and relationships.
so for me, the issue isn’t just “is it real or not,” it’s about how it’s normalized and who is exposed to it.
im a creative writing major who is researching about the effects of individuals in the internet that blindly separate themselves on fiction and reality. so thank you for helping me practice for my future thesis defense

Yes i do agree that fiction do mirror real life world but it is important to know that the person consuming the content is fully responsible for wtv respond or thought they have about consuming the fiction
And you're saying about me normalizing proshipping and exposing it to younger people as if im screaming or int with everyone and or is bringing taboo topic everywhere when all i do is just sit in one spot with all my other friends with prob 'character name' kisser in my name, even so its not my responsibility to guard what someone is exposed to on the internet, and its their parent job to make sure they teach this minor abt their thought and believe ,theres an hide and block button available yknow
and by your logic you also should say this to ppl who has serial killer skin no? Because incest and murder both are dark topics that can be in fiction.. and i doubt youre saying the same thing to people who for example has hannibal lecter as a skin ,, by your logic theyre normalizing murder and cannibalism bc they wear this skin on the public safe server no?? But anyway antis put incest on a different morally wrong level for some reason which is completly stupid
